Llandudno lifeboat crew members Laura, Gareth, and Gavin successfully completed their assessments to become Inshore Lifeboat Head Launchers on Monday.

The pass-outs were conducted by Coastal Lifeboat Trainer Ian Bruce.

Each candidate underwent a comprehensive assessment, which included a full rotation of both launching and recovering the inshore lifeboat. They also demonstrated their knowledge and response in emergency situations, launch authorisation, planning and preparation, operational procedures, local hazards, and overall operational readiness.

As ILB Head Launchers, they will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of ILB launch and recovery under the direction of the Helm. This role includes managing the shore crew and coordinating with the bobcat driver to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Robin Holden, Lifeboat Training Coordinator, praised the achievement, highlighting its impact on the station’s readiness.

"These successful pass-outs are a huge asset to our team, ensuring we can get the lifeboat to sea swiftly and safely for both service calls and training exercises. Having more trained ILB Head Launchers strengthens our capability and enhances our overall efficiency.

"I’d like to extend my thanks to everyone who played a part in teaching and mentoring Laura, Gareth, and Gavin throughout their training. A special thank you also goes to the volunteer crew who gave up their time to assist with the assessments, helping to make the process as smooth as possible."
