Editorial Standards
Bayside Radio is committed to providing trusted, accurate and independent local journalism and community broadcasting across North Wales. Our purpose is to serve our communities by delivering reliable local news, informative programming and content that reflects the lives, achievements and challenges of the people we serve.
We recognise that trust is earned through consistent editorial standards. Every news story, interview, podcast, website article and piece of digital content we publish is produced in accordance with the principles set out in this policy.
Editorial Independence
Our editorial decisions are made independently and in the public interest. They are not influenced by political parties, commercial interests, advertisers, sponsors or funding organisations.
Our role is to report fairly, accurately and responsibly, while providing a platform for informed discussion on issues affecting North Wales.
Accuracy and Fairness
Accuracy is the foundation of our journalism. We take reasonable steps to verify information before publication, use reliable sources wherever possible and clearly distinguish between fact, comment and opinion.
Where a story includes criticism of an individual or organisation, we will normally seek their response before publication, allowing readers and listeners to hear all relevant perspectives.
Editorial Review
All editorial content is reviewed before publication or broadcast. Stories are checked for accuracy, balance, legal considerations and compliance with this policy before being approved by an editor or another authorised member of the editorial team.
This editorial oversight applies equally to radio news bulletins, podcasts, website articles, interviews, social media content and other published material.
Volunteers and Contributors
Bayside Radio is supported by volunteers who play an important role in creating local content. Everyone involved in producing editorial material is expected to work to the same professional standards, regardless of whether they are a volunteer, presenter, producer or director. Volunteers receive on-going training and guidance throughout their time with Bayside.
Contributors receive editorial guidance and all content remains subject to editorial review before publication.
Respect and Privacy
We aim to treat everyone featured in our journalism with fairness, dignity and respect. Particular care is taken when reporting on children, vulnerable people, bereaved families and sensitive incidents.
We also recognise the importance of protecting personal privacy while balancing the public interest in reporting matters of legitimate community concern.
Corrections and Accountability
Despite our best efforts, mistakes can occasionally happen. If we discover that we have published inaccurate information, we will correct it promptly and transparently.
Where appropriate, we may issue a clarification, amendment, correction or apology. In exceptional circumstances, where content is fundamentally inaccurate or should not have been published, we may withdraw the material and explain the reasons for doing so.
We believe that acknowledging mistakes openly is an important part of maintaining public trust.
Complaints
We welcome feedback about our journalism and encourage anyone with concerns about our editorial standards to contact us.
All complaints are considered fairly and impartially, and we will investigate concerns thoroughly before responding.
If a complainant remains dissatisfied after our complaints procedure has concluded, and the complaint relates to matters within its jurisdiction, they may refer the matter to Ofcom, the independent regulator for broadcasting in the United Kingdom, which is responsible for ensuring broadcasters comply with the Ofcom Broadcasting Code.
