Affectionately known as ‘The Card Lady’ by many, Carol Thorne from Llandudno has lovingly created handmade greeting cards for over ten years and has raised over £26,000 for St David’s Hospice.

In 2011, Carol retired as a civil servant and with her free time she decided to put her love of photography to use and create bespoke handmade cards with the images she has taken.

Popular with both locals and tourists, many people ask after her and how they can purchase more of the beautiful cards.

Over the years, she has created thousands of cards. The photos on the front include local places of interest, wildlife and of course the Great Orme Goats, which have grown in popularity, keeping Carol extremely busy!

St David’s Hospice Chief Executive Trystan Pritchard said: “We would like to say a heartfelt thank you. Carol is an unsung hero, who has continued to create her cards whatever challenges life brings.

“Volunteering your time to keep up with the overwhelming demand and achieving another fundraising milestone of over £26,000 is outstanding. It is something to be very proud of and we are extremely grateful for all your efforts.”

All funds raised from the cards goes to St David’s Hospice which provides respite and end of life care for local people of North West Wales, with life-limiting illnesses, as well as providing support for many of their loved ones.

If you are interested in purchasing Carol’s cards, they can be found at many local shops and hotels such as the Co-op stores in Deganwy and Craig-y-Don.

Carol can be regularly seen at many events throughout the year raising funds for the Hospice.

In addition, she now has a regular stall next to St John’s Church on Mostyn Street, Llandudno on most Thursdays, and Saturdays.
