Plans to proceed with sea defence development works in Rhos-on-Sea which will see the widening of the Promenade and the demolition of the refreshment kiosks looks likely to proceed despite some local opposition.

Residents in Rhos-on-Sea were asked for their views during a recent consultation and many said that the kiosks were an important part of local heritage and an important place for locals and visitors to meet.

As a result, the council have discussed two new approaches to try and win over local residents.

Clwyd West MS Darren Millar commenting on a revised approach, said he was supportive now the council has discussed a plan to replace the popular kiosks and abandon unpopular proposals to introduce a one way system on Cayley Promenade.

As part of plans to upgrade the promenade, the Council had originally proposed that the kiosks would be removed with no clear plan for their replacement. This resulted in a campaign being launched to save the kiosks, which Mr. Millar backed.

The local authority’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Transportation has now confirmed that a business case had been submitted to enable the construction of new kiosks in the next financial year.

It’s now up to the Council’s Capital Selection Panel to sign off the proposal in early December.

Mr. Millar said: “I was delighted to hear that the Council has listened to local views and revised their plans and are now looking to replace these important community assets that are popular with locals and visitors alike."
