Concerns over Conwy and Denbighshire lockdown threat

With reports that Conwy and Denbighshire may be amongst the next local authorities to face further Covid restrictions, Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is calling on the public and businesses owners to be vigilant and comply with the rules imposed to prevent further spread of the disease.

A number of local authority areas in Wales have already seen new restrictions introduced over the past couple of weeks and earlier today Dr Giri Shankar of Public Health Wales (PHW) said Conwy and Denbighshire are now being closely monitored and could face local restrictions, along with Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan, Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Anglesey, and Flintshire.

Commenting, Darren said: “It was very concerning to hear that Denbighshire and Conwy are amongst the local authorities which may face further restrictions. Clearly this is not what any of us want so I therefore urge everyone to be vigilant and comply with the rules.

“If we all do what is asked of us then we may be able to prevent further restrictions, keep the virus under control and prevent people from coming to harm. We did it earlier in the year and I am confident we can do it again.

“I hope and pray that the situation improves across North Wales in the coming days.”

Earlier today, the First Minister urged people across Wales to only travel if it was essential, and the Health Minister told the Welsh Parliament this afternoon that the UK Government’s restrictions forcing pubs to close at 10pm in England, are being considered in Wales, along with limiting pubs and restaurants to table service only.
