Call for extra Police presence when caravan parks re-open

Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is calling for an increased police presence in coastal holiday towns in his constituency to ensure adherence to coronavirus restrictions once holiday parks reopen later this month.

In the Welsh Government’s last review on the lifting of lockdown restrictions on June 19th, it was announced that holiday caravan parks in Wales can reopen from July 13th.

Whilst Darren welcomes this move and the boost it will provide to the local economy, he said it is vital that all those visiting follow the rules.

He has therefore approached the Chief Constable of North Wales Police, Carl Foulkes, to request that extra police resources are deployed to Towyn, Kinmel Bay and Pensarn once the parks are reopened to help ensure the restrictions are obeyed.

Darren said:“Whilst it is great news that these parks can reopen and start their recovery from this pandemic, I know many local people are concerned about the prospect of a significant influx of holidaymakers into the area.

“It is therefore vital that those visiting are mindful of the restrictions that are still in place and that they follow them.

This virus is still very much with us and whilst it is important for holiday parks and tourism businesses that they are able to reopen and start recouping some of what they have lost since lockdown, it must not be to the detriment of people’s health.

“Having an increased police presence in the areas around these parks will prevent the chaos that has been seen in other parts of the country and deter people from breaking the rules.

"A visible police presence will also and provide reassurance to the local community so I very much hope that the Chief Constable is able to meet my request.”
