A caring Penrhyn Bay cuppa raises thousands for hospice

Despite covid restrictions, once again the residents of Penrhyn Court in Penrhyn Bay have rallied together to raise much needed funds for St David’s Hospice.

The residents at the independent living retirement apartments on Maes-y-Wylan held their annual coffee morning earlier this summer. Following social distancing guidelines, they were all able to enjoy refreshments and fundraising games in their communal lounge.

The fundraising is led by resident Dorothy French, she said: “I am very grateful of the support from the residents and management for supporting their local adult Hospice service. The raffle, sale of refreshments and general donations helped to raise a fantastic amount.

Fundraising since 2007, this year’s coffee morning raised £1250, adding to their overall total of almost £30,000 for the local charity who provide hospice care, free of charge, to adult patients across Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey.

This year the residents have also taken part in the ‘Find Dewi the Goat’ fundraising game and will be raising funds towards the St David’s Hospice 500 Hearts fundraising campaign. https://stdavidshospice.enthuse.com/pf/penrhyn-court

St David’s Hospice Conwy Community Fundraiser Adrian Owen said: “Yet again a fantastic amount of money has been raised by the residents of Penrhyn Court. I hope that they enjoyed the morning and know that there were many raffle prizes won.

“Thank you to Dorothy French for taking the time to organise the event and the effort both she and others put in to support the Hospice during these difficult times.”

“The Hospice fundraising team would love to hear from anyone else who would like to take part in 500 Hearts fundraising campaign. Could you challenge yourself to raise £100 for St David’s Hospice? How you choose to raise the funds is your choice – This could be by doing a physical challenge, a bike ride challenge or coffee morning like our friends at Penrhyn Court.

“If 500 people take part in the 500 Hearts campaign, it will raise at least £50,000 for end-of-life care across North West Wales, helping our charity to recoup the money we have lost due to covid.”
