COVID 19: Scrubs Up Colwyn Bay and Beyond

April 19, 2020 - 2158 views

Once again the community spirit of Colwyn Bay, its people and the business community have come shining through in response to the terrible Covid-19 health crisis by producing much needed scrubs for our local hospital.

After a call was put out on Facebook by Mark Clemson from the Colwyn Bay Chamber of Trade, Scrubs Up Colwyn Bay quickly swung into action to begin coordinating the effort needed to make sanitary clothing for our local surgeons, nurses and physicians.

I had a chat with Mark Clemson who has helped organised this with lots of very committed local people and you can hear our chat and find out how to help. Below are the many links and information we chatted about. If you can assist in any way that would be great.

Donations still open for next few days as per below link

The number of volunteers is daily increasing 40-60 already in place with more joining each day.

Priority is to make Scrubs but whilst we are awaiting fabric vols have been using available materials to make Theatre Hats - Bags etc

I ask if anyone has access to cotton 100% or poly mix 65/35 that we could have or any business are willing to support us then we would love to hear from them either via the FB group or email mjclemson@aol.com

We have orders for 60-80 Scrubs outfits and obviously we anticipate that increasing significantly over the coming weeks and months - to make a set of scrubs needs approximately 4.5 metres and the cost of material is approximately £20 per set of scrubs.

To show how your donations and help can make a difference Mark has done some calculations as near enough as possible, based on products from Abakhan and not including the discount.

Based on ‘Sew Me Something’pattern fabric, interfacing and thread costs around £13.83

The Scrub Hub pattern cost £10.43 to make ( based on their calculations of 50m makes 17 uniforms)

Fabric is £2.99 per meter its pollycotton 70% poly 30%cotton and Oxford Blue colour

Thread £3.16 for 4572 meters amazing large cone! Royal blue

Interfacing is £1.55 per meter this is a charcoal coloured one, might need a sewing expert to confirm that its suitable, it looks ok.

Elastic (not needed in Sew me Something pattern) £3.10 per meter.

Once again please help if you can!

All the best,

Simon.
