A yellow snow warning has been issued for North Wales as forecasters warn of a sharp turn to colder, more unsettled weather this week.
The alert from the Met Office comes into force at 4pm on Wednesday and remains in place until 6am on Thursday. It covers parts of Denbighshire, Conwy, Gwynedd and Wrexham with the potential for travel disruption and isolated power cuts.
Forecasters say there is still some uncertainty around the precise track of the system, but an area of rain and snow is expected to push across Wales later on Wednesday and into the early hours of Thursday. As temperatures fall, rain is likely to turn to snow in places, particularly on higher ground.
The warning follows a noticeable drop in temperatures across the UK, driven by north-westerly winds. While the coldest readings earlier in the week were recorded in Scotland, conditions across Wales have also turned markedly colder, increasing the risk of icy stretches on untreated roads.
Meanwhile, the UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow cold health alert for much of England, warning of increased pressure on health services and greater risks to vulnerable people during the cold snap.
Residents in North Wales are being advised to check travel updates before setting out, allow extra time for journeys and keep an eye on local forecasts as conditions develop through Wednesday afternoon and overnight.
