Welsh Government "ignoring the public" in 20mph row

Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has condemned the Labour Welsh Government for "dismissing the views of the public" following controversy around the 20mph speed limit to be enforced on many of Wales' roads from this weekend.

In the meeting of the Welsh Parliament, the Welsh Conservatives forced a vote to ditch the 20mph speed limit but the Labour Government, Labour MSs and Plaid MSs all voted against.

Mr. Millar claims this action supports a policy that will slow emergency services down, cost the economy up to £9 billion, and impact people’s livelihoods.

Commenting after the vote,he said: “I listened to my constituents and voted to stop Labour's plans for 20 mph to be the default speed limit in built up areas, but, as expected, the Labour and Plaid MSs all voted against.

"This car crash of a policy is unpopular, unnecessary and bad for business, yet they insist on pushing ahead with it.

“There are a good number of accident hotspots across Wales, including here in Conwy and Denbighshire, and the millions wasted on introducing this change could have been spent on sorting these instead."
