Wales' tourism gets cautious go-ahead to continue from July

June 19, 2020 - 956 views

North Wales will take another step towards a new normal as details on the further easing of COVID-19 restrictions will take place.

From July 6th travel restrictions will be lifted meaning people in Wales can travel as far as they like and for any purpose provided that Coronavirus remains under control. Visitors will also be permitted to travel into Wales.

However, rules will remain stating that people can only meet one other household outdoors.

In the meantime, the five-mile rule which some have labelled as the 'cruel rule' will stay in place meaning that people should stay local at all times even for shopping and visiting another household.

There will be some exceptions granted to reflect compassionately driven situations such as responding to care and family emergencies.

Non essential shops are permitted to open from Monday and restrictions on outdoor sports courts will be lifted.

However plans for pubs and the hospitality sector remain in limbo whilst Welsh Government look to explore a positive way forward in the weeks to come.

The fragile tourism sector has received a welcome boost with the news that they will be able to begin operating but with strict social distancing proceedures in place from July 6th. Bookings for self-contained accomodation can be taken from July 13th.

The news will be a welcome relief to the North Wales tourism sector including the Welsh Mountain Zoo who will be permitted to open their doors, but again under very tight rules and with the proviso that cases of the virus continue to remain under control between now and the start of July.
