Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is encouraging Rhos on Sea residents to take part in a consultation on the future of a prominent church.
As well as providing a weekly Sunday worship, Rhos on Sea Methodist Church has for many years been the meeting point for local community groups.
The pandemic prevented these groups from using the church building and this loss of income, coupled with the expensive cost of maintaining the property has forced the local Trustees of the Church to conduct an urgent review to establish a way forward for the Church and its buildings.
Last week, Mr. Millar visited the Church, along with Rhos Councillor James Lusted and local campaigner Jo Nuttall, to meet with Rev Janet Park and members of the Church Council.
Speaking afterwards, Darren said: “Rhos on Sea Methodist Church is a fantastic place and has been the hub of the local community for many years with a good number of local groups meeting there.
“However, the Church Council are keen to move with the times and update the facilities they provide.
“They are therefore currently consulting on the future of the buildings it owns and how these can be transformed to provide modern facilities for the local community as well as a more sustainable home for the Church congregation.
“Rev Park and the Church Council are keen to hear the views of local people and have issued hundreds of leaflets in the locality but people can also send in their views via email to rhosmethodistchurch@gmail.com
“I thank Rev Park and the Church Council for meeting with us and encourage people to have their say on the future of these facilities.”
Cllr James Lusted added: “The Trustees met in May and voted to redevelop the premises, whilst continuing to maintain their local Methodist identity as a regular worshipping fellowship in the community of Rhos on Sea, however in taking these plans forward they are very keen to hear what the local community think.
I therefore urge those who haven’t already responded to their consultation to do so to ensure the full potential of this church is realised.”
