Max McGoona scored a contender for goal of the season on his senior debut as Colwyn Bay beat Kinmel Bay 5-0 in front of a tremendous Friday night crowd of 1,152 at the Blue Turtle Arena in the second round of the JD Welsh Cup.

The 17-year-old also had an assist after coming on as a seond half substitute, with Bay’s other goals coming from Aaron Williams, a Jordan Davies penalty, Louis Robles and Jamie Cumming.

The Bay pretty much dominated throughout, as expected, but it was 33 minutes before they opened the scoring with Aaron Williams sweeping the ball home from Aron Williams’ cross from the right.

Two goals in two minutes right on half-time gave the Bay a comfortable lead at the break with Jordan Davies scoring from the penalty spot after he had been brought down in the area, and then Uniss Kargbo put in a great run on the left before pulling the ball back from the bye-line for Louis Robles to score number three.

Louis had earlier hit the bar with a header and had a goal ruled out for offside.

Numerous chances came and went in the second half with Louis Robles hitting the post and being denied by a double save from Kinmel Bay keeper James Roberts. before Max McGoona came on for his impressive late cameo.

His ball into the area from the right fell perfectly for Jamie Cumming to get his first goal of the season to make 4-0 on 71 minutes and Max then linked up nicely with fellow substitute Issa Kargbo before cutting inside to fire a cracking right foot shot which dipped over the keeper into the corner of the net from the edge of the area.

The management team took the opportunity to give some much needed game time for a few players who have not played much this season, with goalkeeper Seb Osment keeping a clean sheet on his debut – and that made it six clean sheets in Bay’s last eight games, while Ben Hoban also made his semior debut as a second half substitute.
