Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has applauded a successful church run scheme in his constituency which is helping people in need.

Last week Darren visited Sure Hope Church in Old Colwyn to learn more about their ‘FoodShare’ project, which was established four months ago.

The scheme enables people to pay £3.50 per week in exchange for a minimum of £15 worth of food.

It’s been highly successful and is run by a team of volunteers from the Church.

Darren said: “It was a real pleasure to visit Sure Hope Church to hear about this fantastic scheme, which since its establishment only four months ago has proved to be extremely successful in helping those in need.

“Every Monday the church redistributes food gleaned from supermarkets across the county, and also once a fortnight they invite people to join them for their regular Monday evening Feast prepared from the collected food waste

“They are also now planning to meet other local needs by helping people into work and providing adult education opportunities but need to expand their facilities to enable them to have the capacity to do so.

“I can’t praise the Church and all their volunteers enough for all that they are doing in the local community and I wish them continued success with the ‘FoodShare’ project and other projects they have planned for the future”.

Anyone who wants to volunteer to help with the project should contact Peter Calcraft, Chair of Trustees at Sure Hope Church on 07857 822560.
