Step up and save lives: Volunteers wanted in Rhyl

A call has gone out for new lifesavers on the North Wales coast, as RNLI volunteers in Rhyl Lifeboat Station look to recruit the next generation of crew members.

The station is appealing for dedicated and community-minded individuals to step forward and join its volunteer lifeboat team—offering the chance to play a vital role in protecting lives at sea.

No previous experience is needed, with full training provided to successful recruits. What matters most, the RNLI says, is enthusiasm, resilience and a willingness to work as part of a close-knit team in often challenging conditions.

Volunteers will be trained in life-saving techniques, seamanship and search and rescue operations, equipping them with the skills needed to respond to emergencies along one of the busiest stretches of the North Wales coastline.

But the rewards go far beyond the training.

Crew members gain not only practical, transferable skills, but also the opportunity to build lasting friendships and experience the unique camaraderie that comes with being part of a life-saving service.

The role does, however, come with responsibility. Volunteers must be able to commit to regular training sessions and be ready to respond to emergency call-outs at any time—often in unpredictable and demanding situations. Staying calm under pressure and having a genuine passion for helping others are seen as essential qualities.

The RNLI, one of the world’s most respected maritime rescue organisations, says volunteering offers a powerful sense of pride and achievement—knowing that your actions could help save lives when it matters most.

For those ready to take the plunge, opportunities are available for both all-weather and inshore lifeboat crew roles.
