Skipper McCready set for 100th appearance for Bay

There is a big landmark for Colwyn Bay skipper Tom McCready in Friday evening’s home game against Gresford Athletic when he is set to make his 100th appearance for the club.

The former Morecambe and Exeter City midfielder originally joined the Bay on loan from AFC Fylde in January 2018, making his debut in a 2-1 win at Kendal Town,  before making the move permanent.

He took over as club captain later that year and is currently in his fourth season with the Bay – broken only by a short spell at Runcorn Linnets when Welsh football was in lockdown last year.

It is the longest he has ever been with one club and to date he has scored 29 goals for the Bay, one of his most memorable being in the 1-0 Welsh Cup win over then Cymru Premier side Airbus UK in December 2019.

A hat-trick in the 4-3 win at Newcastle Town, in Bay’s last season in England (2018/19), included a penalty and two absolute screamers from 30 odd yards.

So far this season Tom is the team’s second top scorer with six goals, along with eight assists.

Tom says: “It is an absolute pleasure for me to represent this wonderful football club and community, and to have the honour of doing so 100 times will be an incredibly proud moment for me.

“I signed for Colwyn Bay when I was on the verge of quitting football altogether, and I cannot thank the board, management, players and fans enough for the enjoyment I’ve had at the club over the last four years. With that being said – here’s to the next 100!”
