A section of the promenade at Old Colwyn will close from tomorrow (Monday, 26 October), as work gets under way to strengthen coastal defences and protect the seafront.
The closure is expected to remain in place until summer 2027. During that time, the promenade will be raised and rock armour installed to help protect the sea wall and walkway from coastal conditions.
Pedestrians will be diverted to the pavement on the opposite side of West Promenade, while the road itself will remain open. Jones Brothers Civil Engineering will be managing the work.
The scheme forms part of wider efforts to protect the coastline around Old Colwyn and Colwyn Bay, where sea defences play an important role in reducing the risk of coastal erosion and damage during rough weather.
The work will also affect a popular seafront corridor used by people walking and cycling. Conwy County Borough Council has placed importance on developing walking and cycling routes, helping residents and visitors travel actively between coastal communities and enjoy access to the waterfront.
The temporary diversion means people using the promenade will need to take an alternative route while construction is under way. Anyone planning a walk or cycle along this stretch of the coast should allow for the disruption and follow signs around the works.
