Schools thank parents on the last day of an eventful year

On the last day of term, many local schools are reflecting back on a very turbulent couple of months for pupils, teachers and parents.

As preparations are already underway to bring some normality back to the classroom from the start of the new year in September, head teachers have sent through details of what plans will be in place to ensure that all school children can recommence their studies safely and with confidence.

Schools have also today published messages on social media wishing those leaving for university and work all the very best with their futures.

Today Dave Humphrey's Headmaster of Colwyn Bay school Bryn Elian sent a letter to parents thanking them for their support.

Well, we’ve finally made it to the end of a very long and strange year.

This week has all been about looking forward for us as a school as the Leadership Team have been planning for the re-opening of school in September. All households should receive a letter from us this week go explain some of our initial plans.

We have also had a couple of very productive days with Year 11 looking at their next phase of education and what they would like to do in our sixth form when they return.

However, the highlight of the week was to see all the ex- cited faces of the Year 6 learners who came up from their primary schools on Wednesday/Thursday to familiarise themselves with the school. It was a pleasure to see them all and it will be a further pleasure to greet them back in as Ysgol Bryn Elian learners, in their uniforms, in September.

There are many adjectives which have been thrown about to describe this year – crazy, unprecedented, strange, weird to name but a few, but all I know is that this year has been challenging and I have to say that the school staff, its learners and the Ysgol Bryn Elian community have raised to each and every challenge with gusto and we have done the best we can in order to support our learners and their families throughout lockdown.

Despite having all our learners back by mid-September, it will be far from a normal start to the year as we will still have very many Covid mitigations in place to help keep the staff and learners safe.

This has been a long road to travel and we have finally arrived at the end of the year, having stayed open for a week longer than normal.

The support of you, as parents, has made this road a smoother one to travel, so once again, I’d like to thank you.

We now look forward to opening our doors again in September, to welcome back our learners to the academic year of 2020 to 2021. Lets hope that next year is not as eventful as this one!!!!

May I wish you all a restful and safe Summer. With kind regards to you all.
