The first stage of a fundraising initiative organised by Sixth Form pupils at Rydal Penrhos drew a superb response from the school's own community.

A Virtual Quiz took place during form period on Friday, June 26, which saw senior school pupils at Rydal Penrhos come together in pursuit of winning the prize.

This was the first of three special events taking place to raise money for two local care homes – Merton Place in Colwyn Bay and Coed Craig in Rhos on Sea – to give them a much-needed boost during a difficult time.

After the final scores were counted, Sarah Seenan’s form emerged victorious with a score of 18 points, with Nicky Head’s group close behind in second with 17.

Rounding off the top three were Dr Jim Lewis’ form group, who managed to secure 16 points for the efforts.

Charity Committee member Richard Wolfendale, said: “Thank you all very much for taking part in the Charity Committee quiz on Friday.

“There were plenty of forms that took part and plenty of competitive scores. A prize for the winning form is yet to be decided, but they will receive something for their efforts once school is back to normal.”

A virtual talent show and sponsored sports challenge will also be taking place before Rydal Penrhos breaks up for the holiday period.

With the money raised, Merton Place would like to buy an awning or sail that could cover an outdoor space in which, by appointment and once lockdown eases, relatives could visit.

Coed Craig would like to improve their garden facilities, as they can no longer take their residents on outings. They currently have limited garden furniture and would also like to purchase bird feeders, hanging baskets, tubs, planters and flowers to improve their outdoor space.
