The RSPB has defended its decision to introduce new access requirements for visitors wishing to use the café at its Conwy nature reserve.
Under the new policy, guests must now pay an entrance fee, a parking charge, or hold a valid membership to access the facilities.
The charity stated that the change was made to correct an "unfair anomaly" and brings the Conwy site into line with the majority of its other reserves across the UK.
The organisation also noted that the approach is consistent with other major visitor attractions, such as those operated by the National Trust and Cadw, which similarly require admission or parking fees for café access.
However, the move has sparked a significant volume of concern from regular visitors. In response to the feedback, the RSPB has confirmed it will monitor the situation closely and plans to conduct a formal review of the new policy in due course.
Despite the controversy, the charity highlighted its ongoing commitment to the region, noting its anticipation for the upcoming opening of the new Active Travel Route, which is expected to improve access and bring more visitors to the area.
