Volunteer Geoff Cowen has qualified as a Launch Authority at Llandudno Lifeboat Station following the successful completion of his final assessment.
The assessment, carried out last week by Coastal Lifeboat Trainer Simon Bunting, is a detailed shore-based exercise lasting around 90 minutes. It is designed to test a candidate’s knowledge of Royal National Lifeboat Institution policy, local procedures and standard operating practices, as well as their ability to respond to evolving scenarios and make clear decisions under pressure.
In his new role, Geoff will work closely with HM Coastguard, selecting the appropriate asset for launch and supporting the Lifeboat Operations Manager during service call-outs.
Geoff joined the station towards the end of last year and has since undertaken extensive training, including regular weekly sessions guided by Launch Authority Alun Pari Huws, along with two structured online workshops.
The station said he had demonstrated a strong understanding of the role and a calm, reliable approach throughout his training.
A spokesperson for the station added they were pleased to see him achieve the qualification and welcomed him into the Launch Authority role.
