With just one week remaining until the registration deadline, voters across Wales are being urged to act quickly to ensure they can take part in the upcoming Senedd election on 7 May.
Officials have stressed that anyone who wants to vote must be registered by midnight on Monday 20 April, warning that time is fast running out. The process itself is simple and can be completed online in around five minutes, but missing the deadline means missing the opportunity to have a say.
Once registered, voters have several options available to them. They can attend a polling station in person, apply to vote by post, or nominate someone they trust to cast their vote on their behalf through a proxy arrangement. To be eligible, individuals must be aged 16 or over on polling day and living in Wales.
In a key detail for this election, voters will not be required to show photo ID at polling stations. Those who are successfully registered will receive a polling card through the post confirming where and when to vote, although officials have emphasised that this card is only for guidance and is not required in order to cast a ballot.
Deadlines for alternative voting methods are also approaching quickly, with postal vote applications closing at 5pm on 21 April and proxy vote applications following at 5pm on 28 April.
The Electoral Commission is encouraging people to seek out reliable information about the process and make sure they are fully prepared ahead of polling day.
With the deadline looming, the message to voters is clear — register now before it is too late and make sure your voice is heard in an election that will help shape the future of Wales.
