Old Colwyn's Marvellous Millie rides for local hospice

Seven-year-old Millie Jones from Old Colwyn, recently undertook her Marvellous Mission for St David’s Hospice riding 20 miles to Rhyl and back on the North Wales coastal path.

Her training started at the beginning of July when she was only six years old and she has now raised a staggering £1920 for her local adult hospice.

The cycling challenge was Millie’s way to say thank you to St David’s Hospice. Nana Janet Jones, from Llandudno, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year.

Millie, pupil at Ysgol Iau Hen Golwyn, said: “I love my Nana very much. I am amazed by how fantastic St David’s Hospice have been at looking after her. She has special treatments and care.

"I wanted to do the ride to make her Nana happy and proud of me. I hope that the money I have raised will help other special people have treatments and care that make them feel better too.”

Dedicated and determined, Millie has been training with her Dad Daniel in the run-up to the event, completing rides as far as Conwy and Prestatyn. She has had a lot of support en route from her family, friends and the community.

Last month Millie turned seven and received a new bike with gears; which was a much welcomed and early birthday present.

On the day of the ride, she was joined by her Dad Daniel, Mum Sarah and Grandad Glyn, Janet’s husband. Marvellous Millie was amazing on the day, completing the 20-mile ride in just over two hours.

Janet, Millie’s Nana said: “What Millie has achieved is absolutely amazing! I am very proud of her. The Hospice needs financial support to carry on with their brilliant work, more than ever considering the current situation.

"I have cancer, which started twelve months ago and have had surgery and chemotherapy finishing before Christmas. Unfortunately, the cancer has come back and there’s no further treatment.

“St David’s has supported me during this time. Especially during Lockdown, every week they have phoned giving their support and advice. Knowing I can phone the Outreach Team at any time means a lot when someone isn’t well.”

Millie and her family would like to thank everyone for their kind donations towards St David’s Hospice, which is close to their family’s hearts.

An extremely motivated young lady, she has already started thinking about what she can do to raise money next. A real inspiration to local, young children in the community.
