Neighbourhood policing teams across North Wales are being highlighted this week as part of a national campaign recognising the work of officers and staff who serve at the heart of local communities.

Neighbourhood Policing Week brings together police forces across the UK to showcase the role of Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs), who focus on preventing crime, supporting vulnerable people, tackling anti-social behaviour and building strong relationships with residents.

In North Wales, these teams form a key part of the operational structure of North Wales Police, often acting as the first point of contact for the public. Officers, Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and volunteers work daily in towns, villages and rural areas to identify local concerns and respond to issues that matter most to communities.

The force says neighbourhood policing is not only about responding to incidents, but also about long-term problem solving. Teams work closely with local authorities, schools, housing providers and other partner agencies to address the root causes of crime and vulnerability, aiming to prevent issues from escalating.

Chief Inspector Ian Roberts, of the Prevention team, said neighbourhood officers play a vital role in keeping communities safe at a local level.

He said: “Neighbourhood Policing Teams make a huge difference to communities on a hyper local level.

“Day in and day out, they are working in their patches to proactively tackle the issues causing the most concern in communities to keep people safe and prevent serious crime.

“From locking up burglars to working with stores to crack down on shoplifting and proactively patrolling ASB hotspots, neighbourhood teams take on all manner of work as they continue to ensure that the villages, towns and cities of North Wales are kept safe.

“I’d like to take the opportunity to thank our teams for all the great work they are doing across the region every day.

“They are key to North Wales Police’s vision of engaging with communities, fighting, preventing and reducing crime and providing an excellent service to victims.”

Throughout the week, North Wales Police will share updates on its work via social media, highlighting the range of activity carried out by neighbourhood teams and encouraging the public to engage with local officers and attend community meetings.

Residents are also being reminded that information about local policing priorities and engagement events can be found through the force’s website, with the aim of strengthening communication between police and the communities they serve.
