Bangor Cathedral is to have a new dean, with experienced minister Nia Catrin Williams set to take up the position in January 2027.

She will replace Manon Ceridwen James, who became Bishop of Bangor in June following a period of scrutiny over safeguarding and culture at the cathedral.

The Church in Wales says rebuilding confidence and supporting staff and congregations will remain important priorities as work continues to address the issues identified.

Williams currently leads the ministry area of Bro Beuno Sant Uwch Gwyrfai. She returned to the Diocese of Bangor earlier this year after serving as a chaplain to the armed forces.

Williams was ordained at St Asaph Cathedral in 1999 and began her ministry as Assistant Curate in Llanrhos. She went on to serve in Brynymaen and Colwyn Bay, alongside a full-time role supporting under-25s across the Diocese of St Asaph, before becoming Vicar of Towyn and St George.
