New faces in Bay squad for Llangefni game

Colwyn Bay boss Steve Evans believes this week’s new signings will bring competition for places ahead of Saturday’s home game against Llangefni Town as fans return to the 4 Crosses Arena for the first time in eight weeks.

International clearance is through for Craig Linfield, signed from Runcorn Linnets, to be in contention, along with Dan Parry-Jones from Connah’s Quay Nomads.

On paper it looks a good chance for Bay to build on last weekend’s 6-1 victory at Llanidloes, and, after winning 3-1 at Llangefni in August, they have the chance to complete a league double for the second week running.

Llangefni have won just two of their 20 league games played so far, and they were beaten at home by bottom three rivals Llanrhaeadr last weekend.

But they did record an excellent 1-0 win at top four side Ruthin Town in November, so they certainly can’t be taken lightly.

“Every one of our players was excellent last weekend, but the challenge  for them is to repeat that level of performance – which is sometimes difficult in a game you are expected to win,” said the manager, as he looks forward to his first home game in charge.

“Llangefni will be up for a fight and they had a really good result at Ruthin, who are flying at the moment, so our mindset has to be right and we can’t afford any complacency.

“I am looking for 100 per cent effort from everyone, including in training this week. I can forgive someone having a bad day, but only if they put in the effort.

“We’ve got competition for places now and the players have to know they are playing for their shirt,” he added.

Although George Mannion (heading for Australia) and Gwion Owen (who has signed for Llanrwst United) have left the club, the manager is hopeful that James Ellison will have recovered from injury to rejoin the squad.

The Bay are expecting a big crowd for the manager’s first home game and the club bar will be open from 12:30pm. Kick off is at 2.30pm.
