Cyclists on Conwy County’s coastal route can now get a helping hand, with new cycle stations installed by Conwy County Borough Council.

The maintenance stands and electric bike charging points are being situated at key points along National Cycle Route 5, with funding from Welsh Government’s active travel budget.

The first stands are available for use at Llanfairfechan promenade, Penmaenmawr promenade, by Conwy Culture Centre and Rhos on Sea promenade.

There are plans to install six more stands and chargers, in Llandudno, Colwyn Bay, Old Colwyn, Pensarn and Kinmel Bay.

The sturdy maintenance stands include a tool kit with a hex key set, screwdrivers, wrenches and tyre levers, plus a tyre pump and PSI gauge. The charging points provide a free charge for electric bikes - the battery can be locked inside the charging compartment for security. Depending on the battery size, a full charge takes 3 hours.

Cllr Goronwy Edwards, Cabinet Member for Environment, Roads and Facilities – Infrastructure said: “These stands will help cyclists on their daily commute as well as people riding for leisure. The Council is committed to becoming carbon net zero by 2030. Supporting greener, active travel is part of that commitment.”
