A new 40-bed specialist recovery hospital has officially opened in Llandudno, expanding support for people affected by substance use and addiction across North Wales.
Parkland Place, operated by the charity Adferiad, was formally opened on Thursday, 5 November, by Nerys Evans MS, Deputy Minister for Public and Preventative Health.
The purpose-built facility is based at Lady Forester House, the former Blind Veterans UK building, and will provide specialist detoxification and residential rehabilitation services.
It replaces the former Hafan Wen service at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, which closed earlier this year, and is intended to increase the availability of specialist recovery support for people across the region and beyond.
The opening ceremony included the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, with speeches from the Deputy Minister, Adferiad Chief Executive Dr Alun Thomas and Chair of Trustees Reverend Sue Northcott.
The development has created 70 jobs, including at least 30 new opportunities for people in the Llandudno area. It also represents a significant investment in recovery services during Adferiad's 50th anniversary year.
Dr Alun Thomas said the new hospital marked an important milestone for the organisation and would allow it to expand its specialist support for people affected by substance use.
He said the investment reflected Adferiad's commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality care and giving people the opportunity to build better lives.
Deputy Minister Nerys Evans said substance misuse remained one of the greatest public health challenges, but stressed that recovery was possible when people received the right support.
She said Parkland Place would provide a safe and compassionate environment for people to take their first steps towards rebuilding their lives, and thanked everyone involved in making the facility a reality.
The opening marks a significant addition to North Wales' recovery services, providing dedicated residential facilities for people who need specialist support as they begin their journey towards recovery.
