The body of a 74-year-old man has been found following a major four-day search operation in Eryri.
North Wales Police confirmed the body, discovered shortly before 4pm yesterday, has been formally identified as Gregor, who had been reported missing after last being seen on the morning of Thursday, June 25.
Gregor had parked his car at the Snowdonia Mountain Hostel near Bethesda before setting out on what is believed to have been a hike in the Carnedd y Filiast area.
His body was located on Carnedd y Filiast following an extensive search involving North Wales Police, mountain rescue teams and other emergency service partners, supported by volunteers and members of the public.
Police said there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and a report has been prepared for the coroner.
Chief Inspector Stephen Pawson said: “My deepest condolences remain with Gregor’s family at this incredibly difficult time.
“Thank you to partner agencies, volunteers and members of the public who assisted in our searches over the weekend and today.”
The search operation brought together specialist mountain rescue teams and police resources to comb the rugged terrain around Carnedd y Filiast, a remote upland area on the northern edge of Eryri National Park.
North Wales Police had issued repeated public appeals for information after Gregor was reported missing, prompting a significant response from emergency services and the local community.
An inquest into his death is expected to be opened by the coroner in due course.
