Former Police Officer Meirion Williams from Penrhyn Bay is running 5km a day for one whole year. That's 5km x 365 days, all in aid of St David’s Hospice, a local palliative care charity!
Meirion started the challenge for fun, with the aim of increasing his fitness levels during the COVID-19 pandemic. His initial goal was to complete 100 x 5km runs, by April his 100 runs were complete.
When Meirion met his first milestone, he decided he needed to set another goal to motivate him to complete the yearlong challenge. Raising vital funds for St David’s Hospice seemed the perfect cause.
Meirion explained his reasons behind setting the challenge: “I’ve started to get fit during this lockdown and decided to run 5km every day this year come sun, rain, snow or strong winds as well.
“My first goal was to achieve 100 runs which I have done. I wanted another goal to help me with my runs and I thought fundraising for St David’s Hospice would help me do that.
“I know in the last year St David’s Hospice suffered financially due to the pandemic. I want my fundraising to help support patients and their families.”
Meirion currently works as a School Technician in Design and Technology at Ysgol Creuddyn. No matter his work or social schedule, he ensures his 5km is complete before the end of the day.
