Matt Sampson to lead Colwyn Bay's young rising stars

Colwyn Bay Football Club has announced that they have appointed Matt Sampson as the new head of their Academy.

A former reserve team player and Academy coach, Matt returns to the Bay after enjoying success with Connah's Quay Nomads after spending 10 months coaching in China.

He has been a coach and Under-18s manager at Nomads and was part of a triple title success last season when they became Welsh Premier league champions and the Under 19's and Under 18's also won their leagues.

But Matt says: "I always knew I would be back at the Bay one day if the chance came up!"

He takes over as Academy Director at the Bay from Chris Thompson, and the club would like to thank Chris for all his work with the Academy and Reserves in recent years.

Matt commented: "It is a fantastic opportunity and a very privileged position. We have big plans to develop the different age groups for the benefit of local youngsters and what I really want is for the Colwyn Bay Academy to get a reputation in the game for producing good hard-working players.

"Hopefully we'll see some coming through into our own first team and some going on to bigger things."

Matt will be introducing himself to all age groups and will be at all training sessions from next week.
