A man has been rescued by Barmouth RNLI after his tender capsized in the harbour and he was swept out towards the open sea.

The volunteer crew of the inshore lifeboat Craig Steadman were called into action at 11.19am on Saturday, October 10, following reports that a man was in imminent danger of being carried out to sea.

Despite rough conditions, the three-person crew launched the lifeboat and made their way towards the casualty, who was clinging to his upturned tender.

The tide and weather were dragging him past the harbour entrance and into the channel leading out to sea.

The lifeboat crew quickly located the man and brought him safely aboard, before checking whether he needed immediate medical attention.

When the lifeboat returned to the boathouse, the man was met by family and friends who were described as emotional and grateful.

A Barmouth RNLI spokesperson said the crew’s quick actions had undoubtedly saved the man’s life, adding that his family and the wider community were very thankful.
