A Bangor man has been jailed for more than seven years after police discovered over £250,000 worth of cocaine in his car—inside a box labelled with his own name and address.
Craig Lloyd, 38, of Greenwood Avenue in Maesgeirchen, was sentenced at Caernarfon Crown Court today after admitting two counts of possession with intent to supply cocaine, along with offences relating to large amounts of cash and driving.
Officers first encountered Lloyd on March 5 while patrolling Bangor High Street, where he was seen riding an illegal electric motorcycle. When he attempted to flee, officers deployed Smart Tag forensic spray, marking both Lloyd and the bike with a traceable code that later linked him directly to the incident.
He was quickly detained and found carrying cash and cocaine. Further searches of his home and vehicle led to the discovery of a significant quantity of drugs in the boot of his car.
Lloyd was sentenced to seven years and one month in prison.
District Inspector Jamie Owens described the outcome as “an excellent result for the community”, adding that the sentence sends a clear message that drug supply activity will not be tolerated.
He said neighbourhood policing teams will continue to take proactive action against suspected drug dealing, including the use of Smart Tag forensic spray, which is currently being trialled in Gwynedd to tackle the growing use of illegal e-bikes linked to crime.
Police say the technology allows officers to safely mark suspects, providing strong forensic evidence to support prosecutions.
Anyone with information about drug activity in their area is urged to contact North Wales Police or Crimestoppers anonymously.
