Rydal Penrhos has announced a significant investment regarding IT over the summer months and during the next academic year.

The school has been working on developing this particular area to improve pupils’ learning, and this will see some impressive changes across Rydal Penrhos’ prep and senior sites.

Work will begin to replace all current servers, with the new engine of the school network being future-proofed for at least seven years, given the anticipated developments in hardware and software.

The upgrading of the servers will take place in August outside of term time.

This introduction will allow Rydal Penrhos to access the new version of iSAMS that will improve parent-teacher communications considerably.

Another exciting part of this investment will see each pupil from Year 3 to 13 provided with their own iPad, together with a keyboard, electronic pencil and cover for daily use both during school lessons and for homework tasks.

All teachers will also have an identical iPad, with the recent online learning period during the coronavirus lockdown providing further indication of the benefits of similar hardware.

These new iPads are intended for lesson-by-lesson use in school, but the investment also has the possibility to facilitate remote online learning in the event of a second lockdown.

Children below Year 3 at Rydal Penrhos Prep School will be able to use purchased iPads during lessons to teach them how best to use IT during the early stages of their development.

These will be available for home use for remote learning should there be a further lockdown.

John Waszek, Executive Principal of Rydal Penrhos, said: “We believe that these investments will have a marked improvement on the educational opportunities for Rydal Penrhos pupils and on their personal and academic progress.

Alongside this investment in equipment and software, training for teaching and support staff will ensure that pupils can continue to be taught by well trained staff.
