Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is calling on people to respond to the consultation on Conwy County Council’s plans to introduce a one way system on the Cayley Promenade in Rhos on Sea.

The plans have met with stiff opposition from locals who have expressed concern that the proposals will result in more traffic driving through residential areas as it is rerouted away from the promenade.

On Friday, Mr. Millar met with Cllr Greg Robbins, Conwy County Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Environment and Transportation, in Rhos on Sea to reinforce the local objections to the plans, which involve introducing a one way system on the Cayley Promenade along the length of the Cayley embankment as part of a coastal defence improvement scheme which seeks to widen the promenade for pedestrians and cyclists.

Conwy has already amended itsplans once following opposition to demolish popular kiosks as part of the scheme. Amended proposals now include plans to replace the kiosks next year.

Cllr Robbins has indicated that the Council is prepared to amend the proposals further subject to the outcome of the consultation.

Mr. Millar said: “I know a great many residents are unhappy with the planned one way system and this consultation provides them with an opportunity to make their views known.

“Unless the strength of feeling regarding these controversial proposals are conveyed to the Council, these plans could go through causing much inconvenience to both locals and visitors alike.”

He added: “I thank Cllr Robbins for taking the time to meet and listen to local concerns and encourage as many people as possible to respond to the consultation by emailing floods@conwy.gov.uk by December 23rd.”

Cllr Robbins said: “It was good to meet with Darren to discuss the opposition to these plans. I assured him that the Council will listen carefully and amend its proposals in response to local views subject to the outcome of the consultation.”
