Llandudno fire engine gets important safety makeover

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service is putting prevention at the heart of its emergency response with the launch of a newly wrapped fire engine in Llandudno designed to spread vital safety messages wherever it goes.

Based at Llandudno Fire Station, the eye-catching appliance has been transformed into a mobile safety campaign, promoting fire prevention, road safety and other potentially life-saving advice as it responds to emergencies, attends community events and carries out day-to-day duties across the region.

The initiative aims to ensure the vehicle does more than respond to incidents. As it travels through communities across North Wales, it will encourage residents to think about simple actions that can help protect themselves and their families.

The project has been led by Fire Safety Watch Manager Pam from the Service’s Prevention Team.

She said: “As well as being a response vehicle, it acts as a mobile reminder of simple steps that can save lives, including testing smoke alarms regularly, planning escape routes, and staying safe on the roads.

“As the Llandudno appliance attends incidents, events and day-to-day duties, it will help share these important prevention messages with thousands of people across the area.

“In time, we hope to roll this out across North Wales, incorporating a wider range of safety messages.”

The initiative reflects the Fire and Rescue Service’s growing focus on prevention alongside emergency response.

While firefighters are best known for tackling fires, road traffic collisions and rescues, the Service also works year-round to reduce risk through home fire safety visits, education programmes in schools, water safety campaigns, road safety initiatives and partnerships with local organisations to support vulnerable people.

Crews regularly attend community events across Conwy and the rest of North Wales, offering practical advice on topics ranging from smoke alarms and escape plans to barbecue safety, wildfire prevention and keeping safe around open water.

By placing those messages directly onto one of its busiest frontline appliances, the Service hopes to reach thousands more people during everyday journeys through towns and villages.

The Llandudno fire engine is the first of what could become a wider programme, with similar wraps planned for other appliances across North Wales, helping spread an even broader range of safety advice to communities throughout the region.
