Llandudno adventure solves town’s internet headache

A popular Alice in Wonderland-inspired adventure in Llandudno has been completely redesigned after developers found a way around one of the seaside town’s biggest frustrations - unreliable internet signal in key areas.

Finding Alice, created by North Wales-based Puzzle Junction, returned with a new web app designed to work predominantly offline, allowing visitors to enjoy the interactive experience without connectivity issues disrupting the story.

The move comes after organisers spent months redeveloping the attraction from the ground up following feedback from players over the past two years.

Set against the backdrop of the Victorian resort famously linked to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the experience transforms Llandudno into a live mystery adventure where teams solve clues and puzzles after Alice mysteriously disappears before her own ‘Unbirthday Party’.

Llandudno has long embraced its connection to the famous tale, inspired by Alice Liddell, who holidayed in the town during childhood with her family. It has long been speculated Lewis Carroll visited the resort and drew inspiration from those stays while developing the world-famous story.

Today, the town is home to Alice trails, sculptures and attractions celebrating the literary links.

But while the story itself may be timeless, modern technology proved more problematic.

Experience Designer and Puzzle Junction founder Eleanor Appleton said tackling connectivity issues became one of the biggest priorities during redevelopment work.

Eleanor said: “We have done a deep dive into redevelopment this year, taking on board learnings from the previous two years to create a robust, engaging and narratively strong experience.

“One of the biggest frustrations was connectivity in parts of town, so finding a way around that for 2026 was a key priority.”

The new offline-friendly system now allows players to move around the resort far more seamlessly while continuing the mystery-driven adventure through its streets, landmarks and seafront locations.

Alongside the technology overhaul, the experience has also been expanded with a redesigned route, new puzzles and games, updated storytelling elements and extended operating hours.

Finding Alice will now run seven days a week, with start times from 9am until 7pm, giving visitors greater flexibility during the busy tourism season.

The self-guided experience blends digital storytelling with real-world exploration, encouraging players to uncover clues hidden across the town while immersing themselves in Llandudno’s long-standing Alice heritage.
