Llandudno Lifeboat Station last week was welcomed Belinda and James, the adventurous couple behind the RNLI 911 Challenge, as part of their incredible mission to visit all 238 RNLI stations in just 911 hours.
The challenge, aptly named the ‘Last Blast,’ has already seen them drive over 8,000 miles in their Porsche 911, fondly nicknamed ‘Splash.’
The couple, who hail from London, began their journey on 23 August, 2024, from RNLI Morecambe, and will conclude their ambitious tour at RNLI Peel on the Isle of Man at 9.11am on 30 September. Along the way, they have been raising funds for the RNLI, with a goal of £110,000 to purchase a relief D-Class lifeboat in celebration of the charity’s 200th anniversary.
So far, they have raised an impressive £83,000 and are closing in on their target. Their visit to Llandudno marks another significant stop on their journey, which has taken them to some of the most stunning coastlines across the British Isles and Ireland.
To celebrate their arrival, one of Llandudno’s Trainee Launch Authority, Andy Mearns, an avid car enthusiast and car mechanic, organised a special welcome. Andy brought his own Porsche, along with a friend’s Porsche, making the occasion even more memorable for the visiting duo.
Llandudno’s volunteer lifeboat crew greeted Belinda and James with open arms, admiring their dedication to raising awareness of the RNLI and the essential work its 6,500 volunteers carry out, from saving lives at sea to educating the public about water safety. Belinda and James have been lifelong supporters of the charity, with their passion stemming from their time owning a boat on the Thames over two decades ago.
As the RNLI 911 Challenge nears its final stretch, the couple continues to inspire those they meet with their determination and enthusiasm. To follow their journey and support their fundraising efforts, visit www.rnli-911challenge.co.uk
A spokesperson for the Llandudno Lifeboat Station wished Belinda and James safe travels as they complete the final leg of their monumental journey.
