After months of organising KevFest charity event proved to be a massive success with everyone having fun, and more importantly raising awareness for mental health.

The day was filled with lots of entertainment including a bouncy castle, face painting, DJ’s and bands and raffles and auctions.

Georgia Dawson, of Old Colwyn said: “The day has been brilliant it has brought all the community together and it has been lovely for Old Colwyn. Everyone was smiling and it was amazing to see how many people loved Kev”.

The event was organised by Andy Dwyer, Ben Hughes and Becky Mavin after attending the funeral of a well-loved man – Kev Lea, who unfortunately took his own life in December.

Andy said: “The funeral was very overwhelming, we felt on the day of the funeral to leave it at that would be not enough. We wanted to do something special and that’s when the planning started.

“We couldn’t be happier with how the event has turned out and with the awareness it has created”.

The event was to raise awareness for mental health, and to stress that it is ok not to be ok.

Becky said: “He was my best friend and I was the last person with him, so it was just such a shock.

“I think the suicide levels are rising and that there is not enough help. Hopefully with the money we raised we can help other people.”

The event has already raised awareness within just one week, after people have already approached organisers to talk about mental health.

It is evident that the event that took place on 26th May 2019, at Colwyn Bay Football Club was a clear triumph.

Sophie Evans, Llandudno Junction said: “The day was filled with laughter, the kids and adults both loved it. But more importantly it’s ok not to be ok”.

Organisers have already started plans for the next charity event with a surprise announcement coming soon – watch this space!
