Conwy and Denbighshire joins Flintshire and Wrexham in a regional-wide lockdown from tomorrow evening as a result of ever increasing cases of COVID-19.

Today in the latest from Public Health Wales, North Wales reported 60 new cases as part of 388 cases across the country. Sadly there was one new death.

Flintshire's infections have increased significantly in the past week with 21 new cases reported today. Wrexham had 18 and closer to home, Conwy and Denbighshire reported 10 and 7 cases respectively.

North West Wales reported the lowest number of new outbreaks with 3 in Anglesey and 1 in Gwynedd.

Dr Robin Howe, Incident Director for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said:

“Public Health Wales supports the introduction of new coronavirus restrictions in four local authority areas in North Wales – Denbighshire, Flintshire, Conwy and Wrexham – following a rise in cases.  The new measures will come into force at 6pm on Thursday 1 October, to protect people’s health and control the spread of the virus in the four areas.

“These arrangements are necessary in order to bring transmission of the virus under control in these areas. It is very important that we abide by the regulations in the areas in which we live and that we do not travel between local authority areas without a reasonable excuse.

“We thank the public in advance for sticking to these new restrictions, which are essential in reducing spread of the virus, protecting older and vulnerable people, and keeping Wales safe.

Commenting on the situation in Conwy, Councillor Sam Rowlands, Leader of Conwy County Borough Council added: “We all know the figures are going up, so taking early action to control the spread of the virus and to protect people’s health is crucial. By supporting extra measures now, we have a better chance of reversing the trend, keeping people safe.”
