St David’s Hospice is seeking new volunteers to help in retail roles as the local charity welcomes customers back to its shops for the first time this year.
After the four-month lockdown, St David’s Hospice was pleased to reopen its 22 shops, boosting much needed funds for end-of-life care across North West Wales.
Now volunteer shop assistants are needed to help with a wide variety of retail tasks, including; greeting and serving customers in a welcoming manner, manning the till and processing sales, displaying items on the shop floor and replenishing stock.
Elle Graham from Mochdre volunteers at the Colwyn Bay shop on Station Rd. She finds her time as a St David’s Hospice volunteer rewarding. She explains:
“It makes me feel so good, useful and happy knowing that such a small contribution of your time can, and does, make a difference in supporting families though such a tough time in their lives. Many small contributions can make a massive impact.
“I love talking to different people and you meet people from all walks of life who come into the shop. Some customers come to buy something for the same reason I volunteered, you may be the only person someone sees or talks to in a day.
“So, if you can make them smile and make some money for the charity at the same time, you know you’ve done something worthwhile. The staff at the shop made me so welcome and I look forward to going in each week.”
There are currently volunteering opportunities at the Colwyn Bay and Llandudno shops.
