North Wales-based charity, St David’s Hospice, which provides respite and end of life care to adults living with a life limiting illnesses, has been awarded a grant from the B&Q Foundation.

The £5,000 grant will allow St David’s Hospice to fund an outdoor modernisation project which will see the communal clinical outdoor areas being totally transformed so that they are safe and inviting, relaxed and tranquil.

The transformation will enable patients to access the outdoors, enjoy family time or simply enjoy the fresh air.

Margaret Hollings from St David’s Hospice said: “As we know from lots of our patients and their families, spending time outdoors is hugely valued, which is why the transformation of our outdoor spaces will be really important to us and our patients.

"The grant from the B&Q Foundation has enabled us to start the initial stages of the project, so we are incredibly grateful.”

The B&Q Foundation was established in 2020 to support UK charities with a combination of grants, volunteering time and home improvement resources.

In its first year the Foundation has helped build safe spaces for kids to play, provided residential support for people with no home of their own and redecorated a home from home for the families of sick children.

Paul Crisp, Trustee of the B&Q Foundation, said: “At the B&Q Foundation, we know how important it is for everyone to be able to enjoy outdoor space. We’re delighted to be able to help St David’s Hospice to modernise their garden for patients to be able to go and relax, creating a better and safer space during what is often a difficult time.”

The B&Q Foundation has awarded grants totaling over £1.3million to charities across the UK since launching in June 2020.
