August 15, 2019 - 1150 views

Families across the Bay of Colwyn and Conwy now have the welcome opportunity to get help with the cost of school uniform as the new school year beckons.

The Pupil Development Grant supports families across Wales with the costs of uniforms, kit and equipment, targeting the families that need it most: learners eligible for free school meals and looked-after children.

This year the funding available has doubled to £5m. It replaces and extends the old school uniform grant.

In 2019 the eligible year groups has been extended. Now included are learners going into Reception, Year 3, Year 7 and Year 10. Funding for looked-after children will be available in every school year.

The amount available for eligible year 7 learners has increased from £125 to £200, recognising the increased costs associated with starting secondary school.

The fund will cover school uniform and sports kit, equipment for out of school hours trips, including outdoor learning, and equipment for activities within the curriculum, such as design and technology.
