Grant deadline to help with floods extended to end of August

An extension to the deadline for residents to apply for the flood funding grant has been secured by Aberconwy AM Janet Finch-Saunders.

The application window was set to close at the end of March, but the Member has succeeded to secure an agreement by the Welsh Minister for Finance that the deadline will be extended.

The grant will now be open for applications until August 28 2020.

If you have had flooding inside your home during the February storms, you can apply for financial help from the Welsh Government Discretionary Assistance Fund

Commenting on the development, Janet said: “Storm Ciara caused chaos across Conwy. 60 properties were flooded in Llanrwst, 10 in Betws y Coed, and many others in outlying areas, meaning that a number of constituents are now having to manage with the double challenge of flood damage and Covid-19 mitigation measures.

“Last week I posted a reminder on social media that the deadline was looming, and was surprised with the number of approaches from concerned constituents who had been encountering difficulties.

“I have been fighting for fair flood funding since the storm, so was not prepared to see the opportunity for support withdrawn from residents.

“I am pleased that the Welsh Government responded urgently to my application for the deadline to be pushed back, and that residents across Wales now have five more months to apply.

“I urge any residents considering making an application to submit as soon as possible”.
