Glan Conwy villagers hiss at Black Cat Roundabout work

Villagers in Glan Conwy are up in arms after weeks of delays on the A470 at the Black Cat Roundabout have worsened thanks to seasonal traffic.

Locals have complained that journeys out of the village are now taking unacceptably longer with some queuing up to an hour just to get as far as the Black Cat Garage.

Many have complained at being late for work and missing important appointments.

The situation has become so bad that some locals say they have taken to driving to Tal-y-Cafn and heading back to Conwy, Junction, Llandudno and Colwyn Bay via the B5106 to Conwy.

As a result of comments from many concerned and angry residents, Aberconwy MS Janet Finch-Saunders has received assurances from Welsh Government that action will be taken to minimise the disruption and ways to better improve the traffic flow from Glan Conwy will be undertaken.

The project at the junction between the A470 and the A55, includes the construction of safer crossings for pedestrians and cyclists, the installation of traffic signals at key locations and an upgrade from the current street lighting to an energy-efficient LED alternative.

The work would originally have been carried out after the summer holidays. But with traffic levels on the A55 intially half their normal level as a result of the coronavirus lockdown, this provided an opportunity to undertake the work earlier than intended with minimal disruption to the public.

However in recent weeks holiday traffic has significantly increased and this has now begun to create much disruption to Glan Conwy's residents and visitors heading back from the Conwy Valley.
