Franklin double hands Colwyn Bay Friday night loss

The Seagulls suffered a 2-1 Friday night defeat away to Connah’s Quay Nomads, who moved into second place in the JD Cymru Premier.

Two goals from Nomads’ in-form striker Harry Franklin did the damage, while Aaron Williams pulled a late goal back for the Bay, after Jordan Davies was earlier unlucky to see his shot from distance hit the bar.

Franklin headed the Nomads into an early lead after 12 minutes from a Marco Fregapane cross and although Colwyn Bay pushed for an equaliser, with Sol Forde and Nathan Peate unable to convert headed chances and nobody able to net from a goalmouth scramble following a long throw, the home side held onto their lead at half-time.

Jordan Davies then hit the bar early in the second half and it was somewhat against the run of play that Franklin got his second goal on 65 minutes after Callum West’s shot had been blocked.

Nonmads survived another goalmouth scranble before substitute Aaron Williams scored with a far post header from an Aron Williams cross to make it 2-1 on 87 minutes – but the Bay couldn’t find a late equaliser.
