A 21-year-old man from Pwllheli has been jailed for more than eight years after raping and sexually assaulting a woman while she was asleep and filming the attacks.

Joel Hookings, of Lon Cae Glas, Pwllheli, was sentenced at Mold Crown Court on Monday after previously admitting rape and sexual assault by penetration.

The court heard that Hookings recorded videos of the assaults and concealed them in a hidden folder on Snapchat.

He also pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children, including 11 Category A images – the most serious classification – along with one Category B image and three Category C images.

Hookings was sentenced to a total of eight years and four months in prison.

As part of the sentence, he was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely, and a lifetime restraining order was imposed to protect the victim.

The offences were investigated by North Wales Police, with the case culminating in Hookings' guilty pleas before sentencing at Mold Crown Court.

Police have not released further details about the victim but have reiterated their commitment to supporting survivors of sexual offences and bringing offenders before the courts.

Anyone affected by sexual violence or abuse is encouraged to report it to the police. Specialist support is also available through independent sexual violence advisers and organisations supporting victims across North Wales.
