Two new Reform UK councillors have been elected following a by-election in Llandudno, after both seats were vacated when their predecessors were elected to the Senedd.

The by-election was held yesterday on June 18, covering both the Gogarth and Tudno wards of Llandudno, following resignations prompted by the Senedd Cymru Election in which Reform politicians Louise Emery and Thomas Montgomery were elected to represent the six-seat Clwyd constituency. Their election to the Senedd required them to step down from their roles on Conwy County Borough Council.

Ms Emery had previously represented Gogarth Ward, while Mr Montgomery served Tudno.

In Gogarth Ward, Reform UK candidate Gareth Probert was elected with 496 votes, defeating Welsh Conservative candidate Greg Robbins, who polled 406 votes. Welsh Labour’s David Hawkins received 368 votes, and the Welsh Liberal Democrats’ David Coffin secured 178 votes.

In Tudno Ward, Reform UK’s Richard Alan Davies (known locally as Alan Davies) won the seat with 357 votes. He saw off Conservative candidate Michael Hall, who received 180 votes, Labour’s Joanna Stallard with 171 votes, Green Party candidate Joshua Morris with 71 votes, and independent candidate James Pethica, who finished with 43 votes.

Turnout reflected a closely contested set of races, with Reform UK holding both seats in what will be seen as a strong showing for the party in the coastal town.

The results mean Reform UK retains its representation in both wards, maintaining its presence on the county council following the Senedd-related reshuffle.
