A husband and wife team will be lacing their running shoes and pounding the streets of London to raise funds for St David’s Hospice in loving memory of a Mochdre man.
Husband and wife Dave and Becs Ellis will run the Richmond Ultra this Sunday in memory of Dave’s father, Esmor Ellis.
Esmor, a retired Securicor worker from Mochdre, received end-of-life care at St David’s Hospice and sadly passed away last summer.
Talking about supporting St David’s, Becs said: “Dave’s Dad passed away last August. We miss his crazy ways and his infectious boyish laugh.
"He was the perfect amount of silliness, he was kind and loving, he was generous, he was always up for a laugh and he loved a chat.
“We are so grateful to the amazing staff at St David’s Hospice for the care they gave him and our family in his last days. They are an amazing staff and an amazing charity and their support means so much to families like us.”
For both Dave and Becs, the 31-mile run is a huge challenge.
Open to runners who can achieve a minimum of 4mph; it starts from Kingston upon Thames and follows a route through a whole host of famous London bridges including Westminster Bridge, London Bridge and Tower Bridge, through to The Thames Barrier.
Dave, originally from Llandudno Junction said: “I’ve just started running this year and Becs has done a few half marathons before so running this length is an unknown for us. We’re feeling fairly confident and are looking forward to enjoying the race.
“The reason we’re running is to mark dad’s passing and to give thanks for the care given to him by St David’s Hospice.
“Our family were absolutely thrilled with the care given to Dad and I hope the money we raise continues that fantastic care.”
Conwy Area Fundraiser, James Wilde said:“This will certainly be a challenge for both Dave and Becs but after speaking to them both I know their determination will see them through to the finish line.
“I look forward to hearing how they both get on and the funds and awareness they raise for St David’s Hospice will be a great help to both the patients and their families.”
