Conwy County Borough Council has thanked emergency services for their ongoing efforts as firefighters continue to tackle the major wildfire at Sychnant Pass.

The blaze, which broke out at the weekend, spread rapidly across the hillside above Conwy, prompting a large-scale response from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service. At the height of the incident, multiple fire engines, specialist wildfire units and supporting agencies were deployed as crews worked to protect nearby homes and prevent the fire from spreading further.

As a precaution, a number of properties were evacuated while emergency services brought the fire under control. Firefighters have remained at the scene, dampening down hotspots, maintaining firebreaks and monitoring conditions.

In a statement, Conwy County Borough Council praised the efforts of those involved in the response.

A spokesperson said: "We would like to express our sincere thanks to colleagues at North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and North Wales Police for their continued dedication and tireless efforts in responding to the wildfire at Sychnant Pass.

"The incident remains ongoing and is being managed through a coordinated multi-agency response involving the emergency services and partner organisations, working together to keep local communities safe."

The council said it continues to support residents who were forced to leave their homes during the incident.
While some families have been able to stay with relatives or friends, the authority has arranged temporary accommodation for a number of households and is continuing to provide assistance.

"Our priority is ensuring that those affected receive the support they need during this time, and staff are available at our rest centre at Conwy Business Centre," the spokesperson said.

The council added it will continue working alongside partner agencies until North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirms it is safe for residents to return home.

Emergency services have urged people to continue avoiding the area while operations remain ongoing, with crews expected to stay at the scene until the fire is fully extinguished.

Residents are being advised to follow updates from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service for the latest information on the incident.
